Our privacy-first principle

bellySignal is built privacy-first and local-first. The app helps you track your gut health, and the information you record stays on your own device. You do not create an account, and you do not sign in. There is no cloud backend that holds your health logs.

This document is the privacy policy for both the bellySignal mobile app (iOS and Android) and the bellySignal website. It explains exactly what is collected, what is not, and the choices you have.

The app: your data stays on your device

When you use the bellySignal app, every health log you create is stored only on your device, in a local database. Nothing is uploaded to a server, synced to the cloud, shared, or sold. Because there is no account and no login, we have no copy of your data.

The categories of information the app records, all on-device only, are: bowel movements (Bristol stool scale type 1 to 7, stool color, a blood flag, a mucus flag), urine observations (a color-based hydration level from 1 to 8, an abnormal-urine-color flag for colors such as red, pink, brown, orange or cloudy, and a persistent-foamy-urine flag), water intake (cups or millilitres), food triggers, free-text notes, and the timestamps of your entries.

These entries never leave your phone unless you choose to move them yourself (for example, by writing a note down elsewhere). bellySignal does not transmit this content anywhere.

App analytics and notifications

The app uses PostHog to collect anonymous, non-health usage statistics only, so we can understand which features are used and fix problems. Autocapture and session replay are turned off, and there is no user identification. The content of your health logs (stool and urine details, notes, and similar) is never transmitted as part of analytics. You can opt out of analytics at any time in the app settings.

The app can show a daily check-in reminder. This local notification is scheduled on your device only. It contains no health data, and nothing about it is sent to any server.

Deleting your data

You are in control of your data at all times. You can permanently delete everything you have logged from the app, at any time, by going to Settings, then Your data, and choosing Delete all data.

Because the data lives only on your device, deleting it removes it for good. We cannot recover it for you afterwards, and we never had a separate copy to begin with.

This website

The bellySignal website is a static marketing site with no backend, no forms, and no login. It does not collect personal data, email addresses, or accounts.

The website uses PostHog (EU cloud, hosted at eu.i.posthog.com) for anonymous, aggregate traffic analytics only, so we can see roughly how many people visit and which pages are popular. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build profiles of individual visitors.

Your rights

If you are in the European Union, including Germany, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you rights over personal data, such as the right to access, correct, delete, and object to processing.

Because of the on-device model, the operator of bellySignal does not hold any personal data from your app use. There is no account and no server-side copy, so there is nothing for us to retrieve or erase on your behalf, and you can already delete all of it yourself from within the app. Website analytics are anonymous and aggregate and are not tied to your identity.

Children's privacy

bellySignal is not directed at children. The app and website are intended for general audiences and are not meant for children under 13, or under 16 where that is the applicable age in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Not medical advice

bellySignal is an informational tool that helps you notice patterns in your gut health. It is not a medical device, it does not provide a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for professional medical advice. If something concerns you, or a red-flag sign appears, please consult a doctor or qualified health professional.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if the app or website changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will make a reasonable effort to highlight it.
